Teacher Spotlight: Zsuzska Beswick

Doug GoldringCommunity, Training

We’d love to help you get to know our incredible TBG teaching artists a little bit better, so we got Zsuzska Beswick to answer a few questions! Check out our interview with her below…

What is your favorite class to teach at TBG and why?

ZB:  Lately I am loving teaching Tweens (ages 10-13)! I love how creative and imaginative children are at that age. They also have a great sense of play that we often lose as adults. As for the shy tweens, I especially enjoy getting them out of their shells because I see so much of my younger self in them. It’s a rewarding experience watching young people break down some of their walls and enjoy just having fun with their peers.

What is something you recently learned or were reminded of in the world of acting, writing, or directing?

ZB:  Auditions can feel cutthroat, and if you don’t hear back from a project soon enough, it can be easy to count yourself out. These past couple of months I’ve been on hold for more than one project, and the waiting felt like forever…sometimes the waiting was a few months! I was so quick to count myself out because the waiting felt “too long.”

The reality is that every production and casting office is different, and there is no standard timeline in terms of auditions, callbacks, and hearing if you’ve booked the job. And turns out, I did count myself out too soon. It was a good reminder that every audition and casting timeline is different and not to compare one experience with another.

What is a recent, current, or upcoming project that you’d like folks to know about?

ZB:  Get Millie Black is a British television show created and written by Marlon James, one of the greatest Jamaican authors of our time. It’s a crime drama that takes place in Kingston and features an authentically Jamaican cast. Watching it made me grateful for the Caribbean representation! You can watch Get Millie Black on MAX!
